Things to Do in Jersey City

From spectacular waterfront views to historic landmarks and vibrant neighbourhoods, discover some of Jersey City’s most memorable experiences.

Jersey City offers a wonderful combination of waterfront scenery, cultural attractions, historic neighbourhoods and excellent food.

Although Manhattan is only a short journey away, I recommend spending at least one full day exploring Jersey City itself. There is plenty to discover without crossing the Hudson River.

Explore Liberty State Park

Liberty State Park is one of Jersey City’s most impressive attractions.

Located along the Hudson River, the park offers beautiful views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the Manhattan skyline.

Walk along the waterfront, enjoy the open green spaces or visit the historic Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal.

Ferries to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island also depart from Liberty State Park, making it a convenient starting point for visiting these famous landmarks.

Visit Liberty Science Center

If you are travelling with children, Liberty Science Center is well worth a visit.

Located near Liberty State Park, this interactive science museum features exhibitions, hands-on activities and educational experiences for visitors of different ages.

It is also an excellent option for a rainy day.

Discover Downtown Jersey City

Spend some time exploring the historic streets and lively atmosphere of Downtown Jersey City.

Newark Avenue’s pedestrian plaza is a popular destination for restaurants, cafés and evening entertainment.

Nearby neighbourhoods offer attractive architecture, independent shops and plenty of opportunities to discover local life.

Enjoy the Manhattan Skyline

For some of the most memorable views of Manhattan, take a walk along the Jersey City waterfront.

Exchange Place and the Newport waterfront are particularly attractive around sunset, when the changing light transforms the skyline.

Bring your camera and allow time to enjoy the scenery.

Discover the Local Food Scene

Jersey City is home to an impressive variety of international restaurants.

Explore the Indian restaurants around India Square, discover local cafés or enjoy dinner near the waterfront.

My advice is to combine Liberty State Park, Downtown Jersey City and a sunset walk along the Hudson River for a memorable day of sightseeing.
